Hog futures reached an eight-week high on Friday at 64.75 cents per pound.
Prices are rallying as meatpacker demand is climbing after the recent addition of new slaughterhouses. This short-term demand for hogs will ultimately boost meat supplies; if consumer pork demand doesn’t keep up, prices for pork could end up falling back down to clear out bloated inventories.
